Book Review: One Realm Beyond by Donita K. Paul

Cantor D’Ahma has prepared his entire life to fulfill his destiny as a realm walker – one who jumps between worlds to provide guidance and protection. Finally ready to go on some adventures of his own, he leaves home on his first mission: to find a dragon who will be his companion for life. However, he quickly finds himself being followed around by a clumsy and pesky dragon named Bridger. He soon finds a few friends, ends up on an unplanned adventure, and begins to discover the corruption that has tainted his profession.

One Realm Beyond was a good, clean, fantasy adventure story! It makes great use of allegory and the author develops her characters well. Many times throughout the book, I found myself picturing the scenes in my head and thinking what a great movie this book would make! As with all the best fantasy novels, truths were imbedded in the story, such as the value of loyalty, treating others right, and self-sacrifice.

I loved this book, and I can’t wait to read the sequel. I predict that the series this book begins builds on previous books, so I would definitely recommend reading this one before starting the next one! If you like fantasy novels that present Christian truths, this book is for you!
